Being a stylist, one seems to find many a bargain, “Must have” purchases and the rare score. Like a magpie ones eye’s flutter around for hidden gems. Here are some of my bargains, finds and special gifts and the stories behind them .
we were very lucky to receive this surfer series of black and white photographs from family friend Harry De Zitter. This is a series of South African pro surfers. I just love them.
Special gifts from family are treasured on this “display table”.
Our rooster is from Sabi Sabi area when we are on holiday and Matthew proposed, he is a pretty special old bird. The green pots just made the long trip from the states, gifts from a family friend, and I love our enamel Fry’s Coco sign, a hand me down, and my enamel spoons and Moroccan Warehouse tiles by the stove. I love mixing old and new and different styles.
I’ll have to do a before and after on our TV cabinet, an old butchers block we bought for a song. After a disinfect, scrub, sanding and coat of paint, it was just meant to be there!
Baskets act as drawers for surfing magazines and styling references. Our best bargain was probably the old filing cabinet from Bruce Tait, a brick a brack of antiques on Long Street, Cape Town. I think it involved R65 and a lot of elbow grease.
Coat hangers act as outer cupboard storage for the bag addiction.
My leather chairs were my first home purchase when I was still living with my parent. I went to my first Weylandts sale and had to have them, envisioning the home I didn’t have. On them are my favourite Babazeka cushions.
My latest purchase of heart (I seem to have a thing for hearts) from the night market in Luang Prubang, Laos.
One of my favourite wedding presents was this mirror from the best friend that is getting married I posted about. On it hangs my worldly jewels from Bangkok, Laos, Morocco and Cape Town.
And the biggest jewel, sunrise!
