The Pretty Girl
- There is no such thing as a quick red lip – always neutralise your skin tone to even out any imperfection or superficial redness before you even reach for the lippy
- Never, ever apply mascara without curling your lashes first – and never curl your lashes AFTER applying mascara
- If you have very short, very curly lashes – apply your mascara from the top down, dragging the mascara through the lash to the tip, rather than pushing the lash up and battling the curl – this way you’ll weigh the lashes down and extend them.
- Apply moisturiser, primer or day cream immediately prior to foundation. Pat off any excess if necessary. This will improve the blendability of your product and boost radiance
- Don’t be afraid to experiment. Customise your lipsticks and glosses by layering and adding colour – if it doesn’t work, wipe it off!

1. On days when you can’t face the idea of full coverage, mix a bit of your regular foundation with a day cream to create a lighter, tinted moisturiser.
2. Mascara has one of the shortest life spans of all cosmetics – never share it with friends, and turf it after 3 months (or if it develops a funny smell).
3. A really easy and inexpensive option for dry heels and feet is to coat them in vaseline and wrap them up in clingfilm before going to sleep.
4. Keep your lips soft and smooth by exfoliating them gently with a warm, damp facecloth and then applying a nourishing lipbalm.
5. If you want your lipstick to really last – and stay looking neat and defined – always use a lipliner before applying it; this also prevents feathering.

1. With skin that’s starting to mature, you want your overall appearance to be radiant and dewy, not dry and dull, and I mean dewy, not shiny. Skip heavily mattifying powders and go for cream-textured blushers.
2. It’s never too early to start using eye cream. It must be part of your skin care routine by your late 20s if you want to keep your eyes youthful.
3. The best advice a young girl will ever get: treat your skin with TLC. Don’t just go for the ‘big gun’ zit zapping products. If you strip away your skin’s protective outer layer, it will produce oil in bucketloads to compensate. So use gentle products that respect this layer while tackling excess oil and don’t forget to moisturise, just find an oil-free one.

1 ‘If it looks bad down, it’ll look bad up’. This was from uber hairstylist, Oribe. What it means is that for your hair to look beautiful when you pin it up, it needs to look great down too – it should be well cut, shiny and full of body and bounce – it’ll make it easier to take up too.
2 Your beautifully painted nails will stay looking lovely if you apply a top coat every four days.
3 Always apply your mascara to your top lashes whilst looking down. This will allow you to put pressure on your lashes to coax the curl and it will prevent your mascara from smudging on your top lids.
4 Don’t worry about painting your nails neatly. Paint them in the evening and apply cuticle oil liberally once they are dry. The oil will allow you to easily rub off any excess enamel from the surrounding skin in the morning.
5 Apply your sun protection cream right up into your hairline. Many new skin cancer lesions are found just along the hairline where women have not applied sunscreen for fear of it getting in their hair. Remember the backs of your hand too – they’re like sitting ducks on the steering wheel of your car because UV rays penetrate through glass.
