Drink a hand crafted &Union Beer over rugby in the Union Bar (Girls did I mention, the delightful French Bubble that is Taittinger, is R99/glass & Graham Beck Brut, cause local is lekker, is R65) or – Select your wine for dinner on an Ipad! Because the The Table Bay is Cool like that!
www.sawineindex.com tells us more.
SAWi, a private initiative, which was initially established to research the field of wine judging and its pitfalls here and abroad, introduced a new wine quality index for South African wine. |
SAWi is a system based on several new wine quality indicators and value points, developed to make more sense from having all the different results from various wine competitions. Wine ratings must become more useful and understandable for the average wine drinker. With current social media technology, taking up more of the hours of our day, tending to move information around more than ever, we now can have information at our fingertips, anywhere we find ourselves. What a super way to run our social lives. SAWi efforts are aimed at providing the wine consumer with information that is rich and much more meaningful, as SAWi foresees an entirely different experience for wine consumers in future.Given the long-term roadmap of SAWi, further content components have subsequently been developed to launch different products into various context touch-points, with the first having been the launch at Longridge Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, of South Africa’s own Digital Food & Wine Pairing Menu [Ipad] application for restaurants. Such applications are bound to change consumer behavior for good. For one, wine lists as we have come to know it should never be the same again. The SAWi iPad application, designed as a unique approach to display and pair food and wine, is a touch screen unit, presented to guests displaying the menu of the day and recommending wines according to the choice of food dish. The wine content, drawn from the SAWi database, is rich and includes data which is informative, innovative and new, being in line with the SAWi philosophy of engaging, informing and educating users of wine in a new way.Wine intensity should not fail to measure up to or overwhelm food. In ordering a relatively light or relatively more robust food dish one should be able to find wines featuring an intensity and weight appropriate to the food and savor its texture and flavor.Wine lists need to change and should be divided into lighter more delicate to richer more intense full body wines. We shouldn’t eat a whole meal with one kind of wine. We must start to promote wine per glass, to provide a different wine choice between Starters, Main dish and Desserts.SAWi aims to provide a new basis for people in making their wine choices with credible, relevant and comprehensive information that is quickly accessible and digestible. This will also create a one stop eco-system for wineries to enable them to reach a variety of market segments through one support portal. Some SAWi-F iPad features:
While technology is becoming increasingly important to restaurants too, tabletop ordering devices only stand to multiply. Many imagine that this is something that won’t just be considered to be a discretionary behavior; it will become a necessary behavior. It is trusted that this development will encourage further interaction and talk about food and wine, to share with others and to clink a glass on that. |
