Avant Garde, is a collaborative competition between liveeco (www.liveeco.co.za), SA’s expert in eco chic living and the first online eco publication in SA truly devoted to eco-friendly and ethical fashion, beauty and lifestyle and one of Cape Town’s top fashion design schools, Design Academy of Fashion (DAF).
The idea behind the competition is for DAF’s second year students to create an upcycled look from old and unwanted clothing to be donated by the public, thereby instilling an element of eco consciousness into their design skills.
Capetoninans can participate in this exciting eco fashion event by dropping off old or unwanted clothing at Pick n Pay’s Claremont clothing store and at Pick n Pay in Constantia Village, look out for the clearly marked bins. All clothing that is not used by the students will be donated to township (www.township.co.za). Clothing collection bins will be in these stores only until 26 August 2011.
Contestants will be judged on design elements as well as on the eco credentials of the garments they create. Guest judge for the event is Jackie Burger, editor of ELLE magazine SA.
There are exciting prizes to be won by contestants and liveeco Facebook fans alike. The competition will culminate with a Fashion show with a difference at The Green Expo at the CTICC on 19 November 2011, after which the winner will be announced. So be sure to get your tickets early and see your wardrobe upcycled on the runway!
Avant Garde is brought to you by Pick n Pay and The Body Shop. Prizes sponsored by The Body Shop and Citizen Eco-Drive watches.
