The Om Revolution

I was so excited to meet Victoria from The Om Revolution as I’ve been wanting to start Yoga for a while now. The awesome part about The Om Revolution – is that they bring yoga to you. Having tried Yoga for the first time – it was great to have someone guide me, correct me and have their full attention on me so that I was moving correctly from the get go.I could also then ask questions freely etc. Here I am trying it out in my home office :)

We did a Vinyasa flow class known for the fluid, movement-intensive practice. Vinyasa teachers choreograph their classes to smoothly transition from pose to pose. I loved my class and was pretty sore the next day – but a good sore! :) So I definitely felt the benefits.I loved the breathing and relaxing, visualisation at the end. Again, a definite mood enhancer!

You can either carry on with personal classes at home as often as you like (or your office – get the whole team to do it!) or if your budget does not allow, join a studio once you’re more confident or look into The Om Revolution Classes in The Gardens / Gordons Bay (With more to come soon).

You can ask for:

Ashtanga classes: A rigorous style of yoga that follows a specific sequence of postures and is similar to vinyasa yoga, as each style links every movement to a breath. The difference is that ashtanga always performs the exact same poses in the exact same order. This is a hot, sweaty, physically demanding practice.

Hatha yoga is a generic term that refers to any type of yoga that teaches physical postures. Nearly every type of yoga class taught in the West is hatha yoga. When a class is marketed as hatha, it generally means that you will get a gentle introduction to the most basic yoga postures. You probably won’t work up a sweat in a hatha yoga class, but you should end up leaving class feeling longer, looser, and more relaxed.

Restorative yoga is a delicious way to relax and soothe frayed nerves. Restorative classes use bolsters, blankets, and blocks to prop students in passive poses so that the body can experience the benefits of a pose without having to exert any effort. A good restorative class is more rejuvenating than a nap.

Laughter yoga (Hasyayoga) is a practice involving prolonged voluntary laughter. Laughter yoga is based on the belief that voluntary laughter provides the same physiological and psychological benefits as spontaneous laughter. Laughter yoga is done in groups, with eye contact and playfulness between participants. Forced laughter soon turns into real and contagious laughter.

Sri Sri Yoga is primarily Hatha Yoga, integrated with other paths of yoga for full blossoming of human potential. In Sri Sri Yoga, wisdom and a combination of gentle yet effective series of asanas and pranayamas are taught for the well-being of the body, while an equal emphasis is placed on techniques for nurturing the mind and spirit. Sri Sri Yoga brings you back to your natural self, thereby nurturing all the virtues that you are born with.

Pregnancy yoga is a lovely gentle practice for pre- and postnatal women, that strengthens your body, mind and spirit during the emotional stages of pregnancy. Pregnancy Yoga can help you keep fit and in shape during and after pregnancy. It helps with natural child birth by strengthening the pelvic floor muscles. Pregnancy yoga also keeps the body supple and flexible, enabling you to adapt to various positions during child birth and in turn, reducing labour pain. Pregnancy yoga also improves posture which is beneficial as back pain is common in pregnant woman.

Kids yoga is a gentle basic hatha yoga class that allows children to experience their own bodies and consciousness in a playful way. It combines classic yoga poses with story-telling and activities tailored to the needs of the children.
