Our Stay At Maison Olive, Menerbes Provence

Staying in the medieval hilltop village of Menerbes, at Maison Olive, was a special experience.

Driving up to Maison Olive at Bastide les Amis.

Staying at Bastide les Amis is very much a Provencal retreat. Beautifully appointed with fresh flowers, a bottle of rosé, french soaps and all the kitchen gadgets one can dream of (note the Julia Child recipe book, say no more!). The garden as its sign says, is a real “secret garden” with relaxing nooks and interesting finds.

Relaxing at the pool terrace with just the sounds of the birds and running fountain – not to mention endless blue skies was magic.

Harry loved the little playhouse at the top of the garden and we loved all the space for active little bodies and exploring minds.

We happened to be staying at Bastide les Amis when Simon & Lovonne were throwing a long table lunch. What an incredible spoil; sipping (way too much) rosé in the sun and enjoying fresh salads, salmon, lamb and a magnificent dessert spread. (This would make a cracking wedding venue! 🙂  )

Walking around the little town of Menerbes with its incredible views over the Luberon valley had us pinching ourselves. Much of the movie, “A good Year” was filmed in Menerbes with Peter Mayle also residing here when he wrote “A Year In Provence”

(Resident at Bastide les Amis)

Check out Bastide les Amis for more on Maison Olive. For part of the year both houses are available for rent too and Simon & Lovonne are so incredibly helpful and knowledgeable on the area. In fact, they actually wrote a book on the area which you can inquire about. Magic, magic! We’re already planning our next trip back! xx

P.S. Their website is also super informative re markets, the area etc – perfect for planning your stay.

P.S. We flew in and out of Nice, but you can also fly into Marseille & Avignon – depending on airline & season.
