Beauty feature friday: Happy hair

This week Shelene of Tanaz gives us a few tips on colouring at home, something many have done, unsuccessfully at that.

· If the colour says five minutes it means five minutes do not extend the time

· Always use two boxes of colour so that you do not have a patchy look

· Prefably get someone else to apply this colour.

· If the colour is not correct rather go to a salon to correct it. .

· If you want to play with colour then you could put one shade lighter through your crown and at the nape of your neck a darker colour

Great tips, but I’m still not confident, that’s why I see Shelene 🙂

So, what’s new?

For those wanting to keep coloured locks looking lustrous, healthy and shiny, Wella Professionals launches its new Brilliance Range, replacing the old Lifetex and High Hair Products.

The range consists of a shampoo (R150) for both coarse and fine hair, a conditioner (175) and mask (R181), all containing diamond dust, which helps protect your hair colour from fading and to gain vibrancy.

Following the announcement of music sensation Katy Perry as the new face of the brand, ghd launches 3 new sexy stylers.

ghd says:

“The ghd Iconic Eras of Style collection is available in three variations – Glamour, Boho Chic and New Wave:

Inspired by these eras, ghd introduces the new Iconic Eras of Style limited edition collection. The collection gives a modern day twist to a series of fabulous fashion decades, making 50’s Glamour, 70’s Boho Chic and 80’s New Wave must have looks for 2011. With an era to suit all, dedicated followers of fashion can recreate their favourite catwalk looks as seen in the Spring/ Summer 2011 shows with help of a get-the-look book.

  • Glamour: The Glamour set comes with a perfectly elegant styler clutch bag in black satin as well as a step-by-step guide to help you create the stylish glamour wave, a look inspired by the ‘Retro Prim’ styling seen across the Spring/ Summer 2011 catwalks. The luxurious plates of the ghd Gold Classic styler will smooth your hair for an ultra shiny result as seen in shows such as Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta and Versace who displayed sophisticated hair looks inspired by the late 50’s, early 60’s era and nodded to the Mad Men trend.

  • Boho Chic: The 70s proved to be a big hit on the Spring/ Summer 2011 runway, with designers opting for a bohemian beauty look.  The Boho Chic set provides you with the perfect tools including the step-by-step guide to help you create the soft waves seen on celebrities such as Nicole Richie and Sienna Miller. Included is a cinnamon brown, tasseled clutch to complete your bohemian look.

  • New Wave: Influenced by this season’s key trend of colour blocking, the New Wave set celebrates a departure from convention and makes its own fashion rules. The rounded barrel of the ghd Gold Classic styler makes it easy to create gorgeous bouncy curls and the step-by-step get-the-look book will give you an easy to follow guide to this bold, sassy style.  The collection features a black and gold studded clutch bag which takes notes from the Spring/ Summer 2011 catwalks of Zac Posen and Jean Paul Gaultier.”

The stylers retail for R2280 each.

Phillip Kinglsey launches the new Moisture Extreme Shampoo and Conditioner for extremely porous hair and is brilliant for ethnic hair and tight curls. I actually tested these out on a recent trip to the Transkei. Loved them for their packaging. They are so travel friendly in their tubes.

Loving this product. You have an exfoliator for your face, so what about your scalp? This Scalp Mask is an intensive scalp treatment that softens scaling and moisturize the scalp, works as an anti-inflammatory and is stimulating and cooling to sooth any flaking or itching. I suffer from Psoriasis when I’m stressed, this month this may be my life saver.

Hope you get to let your hair down tonight! xx

BEAUTY FEATURE FRIDAY: PONY TAIL ROUND UP

Shelene of Tanaz, hair stylist to S.A Beauty Editors, gives us some tips on face shapes and pony tails…

ROUND:Wearing a pony tail high on your head will add height and make your face look thinner and give it more length. Never a middle parting always a definite side.

SQUARE: Wearing a pony tail along with pieces pulled out or tendrils will help soften any angular features. Off Centre partings, and don’t forget the floaty bits.

LONG: Pigtails and then tease them and scrunch them into two buns near your ears. This will help accentuate your cheekbones and make your face look wider. A Modern Horizontal parting or a Zig Zag parting.

HEART-SHAPED: Wearing a low pony tail along with a fringe or hair swept across your forehead will visually shorten a wide forehead, and add some fullness around the neckline. Preferably no parting.

VARIATIONS ON A PONYTAIL: Take a ponytail loosely  in the nape of your neck and just above the elastic part the hair with your fingers and then pull the ponytail through the hole. This creates a soft loop that is very stylish for the evening.

Scrunch your hair and then put it in ponytail that is loose at the nape of your neck or on the top depending on your face shape and then gather the scrunch into a small ball and clip it in place and this should give you a very loose tendrils bun.

Take your solid pony tail and then split it in two and braid the two sections and then wrap it around your elastic and build a very interesting bun.

Thick hair wind into a Zulu knot and then put an elastic over and/or clip it. This will give you a soft twist and when you take it out you will have such great waves.

Thanks Shelene, I love the Zulu knot tip… def giving that a try this weekend xx
