Win with KIM GRAY & CAVENDISH SQUARE

Cavendish Square has teamed up with the World Design Capital 2014 campaign, and against the backdrop of the WDC2014 theme “TODAY FOR TOMORROW – sustainable solutions for people and planet”, they have created inspiring sustainability stories throughout the centre, focusing on the extensive green practices in place at Cavendish Square.

They partnered with local designers who were tasked to utilize the waste produced in the centre and craft it into beautifully designed, functional and desirable recycled products.

The recycled products are available at the Made by You & Cavendish Recycle Pop-Up Store ,created specifically  for this project. The pop – up store will be operational for the month of October  and will be located in Col’Cacchio court on the Lower Ground Floor, operating from 10am – 5pm daily.

So in the spirit of World Design Capital and all things designer – Cavendish Square and I are celebrating with a fabulous give away! Just a few of my favourite designer-items from Cavendish Square could be yours! (Valued at R8600) Pictures1-001

Perfect Proposal Winter Special

We had the most beautiful weekend at Grootbos thanks to the Perfect Proposal Winter Special. We had the most perfect weather which was lucky! This is such a fabulous destination whether you’re a family or a couple looking for a romantic retreat! Consisting of three different styles of accommodation, we stayed at Garden Lodge, the more family orientated stay.

The views are breath taking and on a sunny day, a drink, lunch or swim around the deck is ideal over looking the fynbos and sea. Drinks on arrival, cheers! Super refreshing as the staff walk you through the ample activities, meal times and your room.

We arrived at check-in (2:00) and were invited to have lunch and relax while our bags were being transported to our room – all meals are included in your stay, and you will definitely not go hungry! Enjoy a 3 course “light” lunch – and so beautifully plated. It’s always so great to see produce grown on site, makes you enjoy your salad even more :) My best part about the accommodation, ok besides the Charlotte Rhys amenities and comfy bed, was that the units are so private – each with its own private deck.

The view from our room. Aah and nothing makes a girl happier than flowers. A gorgeous fynbos arrangement – and, so sweet, a tree! Guests are welcome to plant their Milkwood tree on the reserve or take it home to plant.  Being my husbands birthday, I asked Perfect Proposal to set up something special for us to celebrate. Firstly, he received a thoughtful card and chocolate in our suite. More on that later . . .

Included in your stay, there are so many awesome activities to lap up these views. Horse riding, 4×4 drive around the reserve, picnic on the beach and loads more. For details see here.

Enjoy a beautiful selection of fresh fruits, nuts, yogurt, salmon, cheeses and more before a scrumptious cooked breakfast off the menu.  Dinner is a 5 course dining experience with meat, fish and vegetarian options. Everything was so beautifully plated and I had a tough time deciding between cheese or something sweet at the end! As you can see my sweet tooth got the better of me! And I was in heaven! There is a pretty extensive wine list with all the wines being from the area which is great.

On our second evening, Perfect Proposal set up a beautiful private dinner for Matt’s birthday in the Wine Cellar over at Forest Lodge. So special – while Harry slept under the table :) But there is a baby sitting service and fantastic set up for kids – so mom can enjoy a glass of wine in peace or enjoy the spa. The below photo sums up out stay! Superb! The staff were amazing. So friendly and helpful. I hope to be back! Remember to check out their other accommodation, like the Villa above, swish! For the Perfect Proposal Winter Special, visit them here.

And see what Harry got up to here. xx

Akasha Mountain Retreat: Part 2

So firstly, if you missed Part 1, here it is! Akasha Mountain Retreat is a Moroccan love affair – Cape Moroc style!

It’s amazing how this little fire place really heats up the large, spacious living area! With a lovely cupboard full of wood!

I took along some mint tea – but we picked some fresh mint from the garden and enjoyed our tea, Moroccan Style!

I loved the sky lights everywhere. The reeds keep the light soft during the day and at night you can see ample stars.

Wherever you are in the house, there are spectacular views to be enjoyed!

photo 1 (7)The house was originally the dam watchers house, and they’ve left some of the original wall exposed which adds to the charm. All the doors and a lot of the windows, decor etc are from Morocco. photo 1 (2)photo 4 (4) copyphoto 3 (9)photo 3 copy 2

A great example of how Moroccan decor can so easily be mixed with contemporary design. Sjoe I was in my element!

Found this book in the house. It pretty much sums up our weekend! Thank You again Chris and Elana for your warmth! We’ll definitely be back!

The main house sleeps 6 with an outside unit containing a bedroom,  small kitchenette and bathroom! Here you can open a side door in the shower, overlooking the vista.
