Marlanteak is SA’s leading importer of the finest outdoor furniture.
They recently ran a competition inviting local designers to submit photographs of their outdoor spaces featuring Marlanteak’s furniture. The winner wins a trip to the Salone Internazionale del Mobile furniture fair in Milan. The number and standard of entries was astounding. In the end David Strauss and his Voelklip project was announced the winner.
We take a look at some of the entries to draw some inspiration for our own patios and outdoor entertainment areas.
This is the outdoor area designed by David Strauss for his client in Voelklip, Hermanus. David took his cue from the architecture of the home repeating the slatted motive using the ‘Mood’ dining table and chairs by Tribu. Remember to use a décor scheme that fits with the age and style of your own home .
This outdoor entertainment area by local designer Andrea Graff features Gloster’s Bloc modular sofa, Kettal’s Bitta Club Chair and Tribu’s Branch dining range. This combination of lounge and dining offers flexibility no matter what kind of entertaining you’re doing.
Tribu’s Branch Collection looks very stylish and works well with the mix of stone, exposed brick and timber in this space… it’s well worth considering using a mix of materials yourself when putting together your outdoor space.
With the advancements in outdoor materials and fabrics you can easily let your outdoor spaces mimic your indoor ones. Here the ‘Mesh’ collection from Kettal is accessorized with bright scatter cushions as well as an outdoor standing lamp.
This space by Michael Borgstrom of Archilab epitomises a simple modern aesthetic perfect for those looking for a sleek and uncluttered style. These pieces are from Tribu’s Neutra collection and are available in trendy monochromatic shades of black or white.
Tribu’s Neutra collection also comes in various lounge options that make creating a cohesive look between alfresco dining and your lounging area totally seamless.
Even small outdoor spaces can ooze style. In this compact patio by M-Interiors, Kettal’s ‘Park Life’ range is used to great effect. This outdoor dining area may seem compact but it has everything you may need from prep bowl, built-in braai and clever storage. The marble topped dining table and the large floor tiles add to the sense of simple sophistication whilst the sliding screens offer both visual interest and protection from the elements.
Marlanteak had such fun working with some of SA’s top decorators and designers on this competition that they’re planning to role it out again next year. So watch this space for more exciting outdoor decorating inspiration from Marlanteak.
